The sculpture at the top of Fuente De San Miguel Arcangel located in the centre of the city Zócalo. The city of Puebla was entrusted to Saint Michael the Archangel since its founding, hence the nickname Angelopolis. The fountain is supported by a stone column, held by four angels, and in the this Saint Michael sculpture. During the 18th century, it was designed by architect Juan Antonio de Santa María de Inchaúrregui. It was carved by Anselmo Martinez and José Francisco Rabanillo and officially inaugurated on 23 June, 1777. The fountain was built as the main city water supply located in Portal Morelos. In 1873, the fountain was moved to Paseo de San Francisco and finally moved to the Zócalo in 1962, to commemorate the Centennial of the Battle of Puebla.
