A long view of Pasaje Ayuntamiento (City Hall Passage). The alley like passage connects Avenida Reforma off the Zocalo to Avenida 2 West in Centro Puebla de Zaragoza. The passage way dates from the beginning of the city in 1536. Since its construction, the alley has been called by various names: "Butcher's Alley" because at that time only meat was sold there; "Alley of the Granary" when vendors sold wheat, flour, corn, barley, and other seeds; "Jail Alley" after the City Hall jail, among many others. In 1901, the alley began to take its current form; renovations were carried out, and stained-glass windows were installed in the roof, giving it its current look. Today, this alley no longer sells meat or seeds; the merchants within it mainly sell handicrafts. It also includes food and dessert shops, as well as clothing and shoe stores.
