One day during our stay in Puebla City we took a bus ride to Atlixco, a Magic Town of Mexico. Atlixco (At-Lis-Ko) is a city and municipality about 30 Km from the state capitol of Puebla. It is a regional industrial and commercial center but economically much better known for production of ornamental plants and cut flowers. The city was founded early in the colonial period (1579) , originally under jurisdiction of Huejotzingo, but eventually separated to become an independent municipality. The name “Atlixco” comes from a Nahuatl phrase which can be interpreted as either “water in the valley” or “water on the ground". Atlixco is an agricultural producer recognized nationally and internationally for its variety and quality of ornamental and fruit trees as well as plants and flowers for garden or decoration. Atlixco was designated a Magic Town of Mexico in 2015, #85 on a list that has more than 120 locations. Some listings may be getting a tad weak in warranting being on the list but Atlixco is worth inclusion IMO. On September 19, 2017 at 2:14 ET, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake occurred approximately 5 km ENE of Raboso, Mexico. The earthquake occurred 51 km deep. Communities most impacted by the event includes Raboso, Izúcar de Matamoros, Atencingo, Atlixco, and Puebla.
